Candlemas

Candlemas was the day of the year when all candles, that were used in the church during the coming year were brought into church and a blessing was said over them.

If Candlemas Day be fair and bright,
Winter will have another fight
If Candlemas Day bring cloud and rain,
Winter won`t come again.

Imbolc is one of the four principal festivals of the wheel of the year.
It is also known as Presentation of Christ in the Temple, and Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

It was bitterly cold this morning, when I went to work, and although there was no frost on the cars, the fountain on the seafront was frozen, and hung with icicles.
By lunch-time the water was flowing again, but the icicles were still there.
I saw this rather nice fellow fishing, down by the harbour, we see a lot of comorants, but this although looking similar is a Shag, they nest on Berry Head.
This afternoon we had some lovely snow showers, which are quite rare for us, the pavilion and gardens looked very pretty with a light dusting of snow.
