Saturday 2 May 2009

I was at work today, it was a lovely sunny morning when I left, very quiet as it was early. I noticed the Campanulas are beginning to flower in the lovely old grey walls everywhere.

The little wood I walk through down the steps is lovely and green now, with the trees dressed in their new leaves.

Down on the sea-front in the rock garden, this lovely Silver Bush (convolvulus cneorum) was daintily draped over the grey rocks, covered in delicate white trumpets..

I crossed the road bridge, the sea was coming in, and mill pond smooth...

The beach was covered in sea weed, time to get the tractor out!

Whilst I was standing there, this big black back landed, to investigate the rather interesting little pot he`d spotted!

I dont know whether it was yoghurt or some sort of sauce, but he certainly seemed to enjoy it..
he evenually flew off with it, onto the beach where his mate was patiently waiting.

At lunch time I went for a walk to a little park I`d spotted, but never walked round. It was lovely and peaceful, even though it wasnt far from the sea front.

There were the traditonal Torbay palms growing round the edges

as well as Valerian, which sprouts from every wall in the bay..

There was also this beautiful shrub, with the prettiest purple flowers.

I dont know what it is, but I love purple, so its a winner with me.

The lovely grey steeple of the church across the road, pierced the blue sky.

and across the other side of the park, this lovely old church, that has been converted into a nightclub.

There were some beautiful old trees, throwing their shade across the park, this magnificent Plane.

and this lovely red head...a beautiful Copper Beech,

The Mahonia had berries like bunches of grapes

And the Lilac smelt lovely..

I spotted a Peacock butterfly sunning itself

It was a lovely place to while away an hour, and I shall go back with some sandwiches, and sit on a bench under one of the trees and enjoy the peace.

On the way back to work, I stopped and took some photos of the fountain now that its been re-painted. I was delighted when I realised it was going to be given a make-over, but concerned that it wouldnt be as pretty as it was before...but I need`nt have worried, as they painted it in the same pretty blue it was before..

and painted the cherubs and dolphins gold again

and around the base, picked out the flowers in gold too

and lovely gold bulrushes... perfect.

What a lovely post, I thought the repainted fountain looked gorgeous, and that park very green and peaceful; just perfect for a lunchtime retreat x
